Parents of children under the age of three have until 30 April 2015 to ensure that they have car seats fitted for those children, according to Traveller24.

The legislation was approved in October 2014, but is only set to be implemented from 01 May 2015 so that parents and caregivers would have an opportunity to equip their vehicles with seat belts and car seats.

Car seat safety

Traffic blitz warned

Law enforcement officers could soon be holding a blitz on offenders, similar to the road blocks which check that the driver and passengers are all wearing seat belts, and, with many road users simply ignoring any safety recommendations, this could be a costly exercise.

A car seat is an expensive investment, and yet it is one major contribution to passenger safety. It’s no guarantee that your child will not be injured, but stats prove that wearing or utilising correct restraints limit the risk of injuries or fatalities in the event of a collision.

Earlier in 2015 we asked EMS spokesperson Robert Daniels about car seats and safety, and he stated that without a car seat, there’s only a small chance a child will survive a collision.

It’s not advisable to use a second-hand seat as this may already be damaged or be delivered without the correct instructions on fitting the seat.

It’s an investment in your child’s safety, and one that experts agree should not be considered optional.
