Top 9 tried and tested newborn products

I am a first-time mum to my seven-month-old baby girl Ella. Like most new parents, I was extremely overwhelmed the closer we got to our due date. Not only were we preparing for looking after a new baby, but we were also trying to figure out what we needed! How could such a little person possibly need so much stuff?

Today I’m sharing 9 of my favourite products for a newborn or young baby. These are products which we found essential and would recommend you put on your list of things you need. For me, getting pretty much everything I need in one place is super handy, so when I realised that ASDA offered much more than I realised in store and online, I was so impressed.

1. Moses Basket

So first up, baby needs somewhere to sleep and this Moses basket is perfect. It’s easily portable to have downstairs in the day and upstairs next to your bed a night. It also has a rocking base, perfect for gently rocking your little one to sleep.

2. Sleepsuits

It’s also really important to try and create the perfect sleeping environment. I’d highly recommend these sleepsuits with built in scratch mitts to stop your little one from scratching their face in their sleep.

3. Room and Bath Thermometer

I’ve found it really useful to have this room and bath thermometer to check that you have your baby’s nursery at the perfect temperature. Trust me, you will be worrying about enough in the early days, don’t let the room temperature be one of them.

4. Pram/Buggy

You’re of course going to need to get your baby from one place to another. I love this pram and car seat combo. The car seat conveniently fits the the chassis for shorter trips like nipping to the shops. The carrycot is perfect for those newborn days and the pushchair will take its place when they get a little older. Everything you need in once system. Perfect.

5. Car mirror

When Ella was first born, I remember driving in my car with her in the car seat and I felt really uncomfortable with not being able to see her. I found that having a car seat mirror really helped, and it’s something I wouldn’t want to be without now.

As Ella has grown, she also loves to be able to see me when I’m driving. I guess it gives us both peace of mind.

6. Steriliser

When it comes to feeding your baby, you may choose to use bottles for expressing breastmilk. For this, you will need to sterilise your bottles. I found this Tommee Tippee steriliser fast and easy to use.

7. Muslins

Speaking of feeding, muslin cloths are your best friend! Your baby can spit up milk after their feed and they are great for cleaning it up off your baby clothes…off your clothes…off the carpet…you get the picture! I seem to have stocked up a draw full of these and never leave the house without a few.

8. Baby bath

Keeping your baby clean is also a must, but bathing them can be a little daunting at first. This baby bath with a newborn insert was SO handy for us. We knew we could safely put Ella in the bath and have two hands free to wash her. As she grew, we took out the insert to give her a little more room to splash and play. I can honestly say she loves bath time now.

9. A playmat

And my final recommendation is a playmat. I Love this Summer Infant playmat because it grows with your baby. Providing stimulation to your baby and support in tummy time and sitting when they get a little older. It also stores really easily when you aren’t using it.

I hope these recommendations have been helpful for you and congratulations if you are expecting soon. Leave a comment below with your own recommendations.
